Even today, Karl Amadeus Hartmann is one of the most mysterious German composers in his generation. After writing for the drawer only during the reign of the National Socialists, even the post-war era did not offer the breakthrough he had hoped for, and Hartmann continued to repeatedly rework many of his scores. Accordingly, both works on the present CD, the Sinfonia tragica and the concert for viola and piano, are first recordings as well as evidence of Marek Janowski’s lasting enthusiasm for the music of the 20th century.
Karl Amadeus Hartmann ist immer noch einer der rätselhaftesten deutschen Komponisten seiner Generation. Hatte er zur Zeit des Nationalsozialismus nur für die Schublade komponiert, so brachte die Nachkriegszeit zunächst nicht den erhofften Durchbruch, und Hartmann überarbeitet zahlreiche Partituren immer aufs Neue. So sind beide Werke der vorliegenden CD, die Sinfonia tragica und das Konzert für Viola und Klavier, Ersteinspielungen, mit denen Marek Janowski erneut seine Begeisterung für Musik des 20. Jahrhunderts unter Beweis stellt.
